New owners of Rio Las Vegas announced today the property is set for a massive renovation and rebranding via Hyatt Hotels.

One of the Rio’s hotel towers is being remodeled and rebranded as a Hyatt Regency, noted Howard Stutz in his article today for CDC Gaming Reports.

Home since 2004 to the World Series of Poker, the Rio’s convention space – more than 200,000 square feet where WSOP events are traditionally held – is mentioned in the release as part of what should attract Hyatt business clients to the rebranded property. No timeline is mentioned for beginning or completing the work.

There is no indication whether the Rio is going to host the next WSOP series or when that series may be taking place. We’ll update this as soon as replies are available from officials with WSOP.

Caesars sold the Rio to Dreamscape in 2019 for just north of $500 million. Included in the sale was for Caesars to operate the casino on a lease-back agreement for two years. Closed in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Rio reopened last December.
