Antonio Vargas took home the title tonight up in the Rocky Mountains of Black Hawk, Colorado to win top honors in the $200,000 Guarantee Summer 2025 Colorado Poker Championship $1,200 Main Event at Bally’s Black Hawk. He topped a field of 310 entries from three starting flights that set the prize pool at $319,300. The top 36 players from the 47 that all returned for the final day of play cashed for at least $2,225.
A three-way chop gave Antonio the win, his sixth up here in Black Hawk and second consecutive main event title – paired with the Mid-States Poker Tour event he won earlier this year in July. His career tournament earnings are now more than $740,000 with this win, according to his hendon Mob prifle.
We caught up with the champ after play ended for an interview, and here’s what he had to say about this most recent triumph up at elevation.
On winning the tournament: “It feels great, after the MSPT title it feels great to go back-to-back. I’m looking forward to more titles. I feel grateful and lucky to be in this spot.”
On having fun at the final table: “I always say, ‘If you want to run good, you’ve got to have fun with it, you know what I mean.’ I’m glad I had fun with it, and to be able to run this good and be able to close it out, I’m grateful.”
On playing with the big stack on the last day:
“When I have that big stack it’s all about putting pressure on the other players, and I think I achieved that to put the pressure on the other players. I know they’re trying to ladder up, so if I’m a big stack I’m trying to put pressure on that.”
On what he enjoys about playing at Bally’s Black Hawk:
“You know what, it’s my home turf, so I really want to beat everyone out there when I have the home-court advantage. I’m competitive so I always want to rise to the top here.”
