Will Givens has claimed the title in the $200,000 Guarantee $1,200 Summer Main Event at the Bally’s Colorado Poker Championship hosted up in the Rockies in Black Hawk. He topped a field of 303 entries to take home the top prize worth $72,476 along with the custom trophy.
“It feels good man, honestly I just got into town after playing a lot of poker on the road, I came here to take a break, and it was almost like destiny. I never really looked back after Day 1 and just kept building,” said Givens after the win.
In a fun karmic turn of events, he faced off in the heads-up final against Maddie Robinson, who is another regular in the Black Hawk poker scene. The two conversational players matched wits in the final match.
“That was the best part, I stayed out of her way, she stayed out of my way. She ate up the final table. and to play heads-up against someone that you actually enjoy taking to and who you’re friends with just made it take off the pressure. If either one of us wins it’s just congratulations. It’s great for the game, we need more of that, not just robots, just more socializing and fun,” said Givens.
“What I love about it here is that it’s intimate, and everyone knows everyone, all the dealers and the players know each other, and they’ve done so much upgrading from when it was Golden Gates. Better chips, better tables, everything, it’s like a VIP room,” said Givens when he was asked about what keeps bringing him back to play at the Bally’s Black Hawk poker room.
Day 2 saw the final 52 players return to start the march down to the money when 31 remained. Some notables that busted in the money included Shane Borrillo (10th), Andre Rieder (12th), Chad Lousberg (13th), Ruth Garaham (18th), Kate Hubert (20th), Nicholas Verderama (29th), and Shawn Busse (31st).
