WPT® Season 23 reached its climax as Schuyler Thornton was crowned the newest WPT World Champion. The WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas attracted 1,865 entrants, and played out over the course of six days, featuring poker’s top talent from around the world. In the end, it was Thornton who earned the title of WPT World Champion, a first place prize of $2,528,200, and a seat in the Season 24 $10,400 buy-in WPT World Championship. During heads up play, the final two competitors reached an agreement to adjust the remaining payouts. The win allowed Thornton to more than double his career tournament earnings.
“I ran better than anyone could ever dream of running at a final table, ” said Thornton following his win. “It’s been a dream six, seven, however many days. I’m so happy right now it’s kind of surreal. ”
The $10,400 buy-in WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas drew 1,865 entries, generating a prize pool of $18,277,000, with the top 233 finishers earning a minimum payout of $19,600. Wynn Las Vegas provided a premier setting that complemented the scale and importance of the season ending championship.
